Investors concerned Rockstar may close if acquisition by EA goes ahead

Published at 6:17 PM PST

When EA put forward their 2 billion dollar offers to Take-Two a mere 2 days ago did they expect it to cause such a ruckus? Invertor’s especially have been both praising and shunning the acquisition by EA. The share price reached a 55 per-cent rise yesterday, however today investors are a little concerned as to what will happen to Rockstar. If the acquisition goes ahead EA can make more Grand Theft Auto's, but if the Houser brothers quit, chances are the Rockstar brand will disappear. Leaving EA in control of the famous franchise, permitting them to develop more GTA's but possibly not by the original creators, Rockstar Games nor Rockstar North themselves.

Just how serious is this? GamesIndustry.biz put it plainly:

"If the original GTA team decided to quit the company, EA could still make approximately USD [$]150 million from the game, using the acquired technology and intellectual property."

Pachter, who called to MTV yesterday, said:

"The game could likely be released every two years, but its success and profitability will depend upon whether the creative talent responsible for the first four versions is retained, and upon the price commanded by this talent for their contribution,"

Basically, GTA IV will be the same released by Take-Two or EA seeing as how it is near completion. Future games will not, if the talent (ie. Rockstar North and/or Leeds) is gone, so is the franchise itself.

Makes scene really, each of the previous games has had the same humour and little things that come from the developer. It may not feel like that, but if you were to play the past games then play another GTA take-off such as True Crime, the game play idea is there, the humour is there to some degree but those little things, the feelings you get playing the game, are gone.

This doesn't seem to be dyeing down anytime soon, so we will keep you up-to-date on the progress. Lets hope the right decision is decided in the end.
